چکیده
Myasthenia Gravis is autoimmune disorder of neuromuscular transmission. In some cases, psychiatric complications aggravate its course. Myasthenia gravis (MG) has always been a challenge for anesthesiologists and psychiatrists when the use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is required, especially when succinylcholine is used together with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. We describe a 76 years old patient with treatment resistant major depressive disorder, without neurological symptoms of MG, under long-term acetylcholinesterase inhibitors treatment. ECT was administered in one successful, uneventful series of 7 treatments within 28 days with bilateral electrode placement. Although highest dosage of succinylcholine-1.5 mg/kg was used, the restart of breathing was without any problems after

A retrospective comparative study was performed on 54 patients treated medically or surgically (thymectomy) for myasthenia gravis (MG) from 1979- 1989 in three Shiraz University Hospitals. Each surgical patient was compared with a medical patient on the basis of age, sex, severity and duration of disease. Complete remission was noted in 3 out of 27 thymectomized patients but in none of the...

Introduction:yasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder resulting from a decreased number of active acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction. Thymectomy is one of its current treatments. Due to sensitivity of myasthenic patients to non-depolarizing muscle relaxants and also the interaction of this medication with anti-cholinestrase drugs, determining the dosage of non-depolarizing ...
